What is gewher 88?

The Gewehr 88, or Model 88 rifle, was a German bolt-action rifle designed in the late 1880s and adopted by the German Empire in 1888. It served as the standard German rifle until the end of World War I and was produced in both carbine and rifle versions.

The Gewehr 88 had a five-round magazine and was chambered in 8mm Mauser, a powerful cartridge that gave it a long effective range. It was also one of the first rifles to use smokeless powder, which significantly reduced the amount of smoke produced when the rifle was fired.

During World War I, the Gewehr 88 was outdated and was gradually replaced by the newer Gewehr 98 rifle. However, it saw continued use in reserve units and was also exported to various countries, including Turkey and China.

Despite its relative obsolescence by the start of World War II, the Gewehr 88 was still used by German troops in secondary roles such as rear-echelon and training units. It also saw service with a number of other countries as a secondary or tertiary rifle.

Today, the Gewehr 88 has become a popular collector's item due to its historical significance and unique design features.
